Tales is a series of short stories about Talpa de Allende and the surrounding mountain villages in the western Mexican Sierras.
It is about miraculous healings by a tiny 400 year old wooden virgin. It tells stories about who grows and donates their hair to the virgin’s wig. You will go “on tour” with the virgin when she makes her “walk” around the entire valley, blessing all things, animals and people. You will visit ranches of American ex-pats on their guest ranch, sharing frosty morning “pajaretas”. You will share the fun of a typical Mexican pig party! Everyone is invited to the “wildest party ever” and to get a taste of the birthday Mary.
There is a visit to the secret sacred places hidden in the mountains, power places where the ambiance radiates magic. Scores of hundreds of petroglyphs from ancient Indian tribes religious drawings dot the countryside.
The traditional Christmas celebrations of Mexican families are a fascinating mural to observe. You see curious trees and unique decorations. There are always the posadas and their interesting depictions of Joseph and Mary. You are allowed to share in the fun of the day of charros and closely guarded secrets of preparing their beautiful horses for their own special day.
The incredible story that evolves into “the woman in the trunk” begins with the discovery of an old ornate tomb found in the panteon (cemetary) in Talpa. Why were the remains of two German men, and a woman, sharing that burial place from the mid 1800’s? The detective story that follows will introduce you to some very unique and endearing people!
Enjoy!
