Hi guys: Sandy Ingram here; An American expat from Northern California now traveling the world. I am going to share with you how I and thousands of other ex-pats, retirees, and long-term stays find affordable housing in the Puerto Vallarta area. I am going to share how I live well, exotic places, condos, apartments, villas for under $1200 a month. Are you ready?
This is what happened: 10,000 baby boomers started retiring each day in the United States. Airbnb blew up and people were arriving at the International Puerto Vallarta airport with no intention of returning to the US to live.

When this happened my little seaside studio apartment for $400 a month, located in Mismaloya, a small fishing village about 7 miles outside of Old=Town Puerto Vallarta, was in jeopardy

Mismaloya is the small fishing village where the Nights of the Iguana was filmed and the Preditor. It is also the place where the world-famous Puerto Vallarta zoo is located.

My retirement income is only $1200 a month. So I share info on how I travel and live well on less than $1200 a month. I found the apartment in Mismaloya on Craigslist. That’s how things were done in the old days, now I and most others find rentals on Airbnb. There is a link for a free travel coupon for anywhere in the world, in the description.

Now for the secret of how to find rentals for ½ the prices on Airbnb, with views. First, you book yourself into an Airbnb for 2 months. This is to give you enough time to get to know the area. The Puerto Vallarta Baby is 62 miles and there are a great many options, villages, towns, and environments, some more expensive than others. For example, in the Punta Mita area, you can find homes owned by A-list Hollywood stars. And places where the rich and famous vacation. You can find Bill Gate’s four seasons and homes that rent for $30,000 a month. On the other side of the bay you can find places like Yelapa where you can set your watch back 30 years, but don’t be fool. This is one of the more pricey neighborhoods around the bay. Cheap rents are in between ,and in the mountain, river areas. Plus you can always find $300 apartments in the local neighborhoods. If you want to feel like you’re still in the united states, you can rent a condo at the Marian and pay Marian prices.
A lot of the older rental owners don’t yet trust the Internet or the people who rent on Airbnb for the community. They do things the old fashion way, and it works, especially when you have ex-pats like me, who tell people the truth about finding cheap rents.
This technique is not for everyone. The locals don’t do things like landlords in America. You do your own repairs, utilities, or even upkeep. That is all for you. And until you are ready for these types of tasks, it might be better to stick with an American corporation and rent under the Airbnb umbrella, especially for single women.

Generally speaking, the further out of town you move, the cheaper the rent. The local buses only go so far, and then there is the end of the line. The rent from within a quarter of a mile from the end of the bus line can decrease up to 50% and more. I found that the views are better once you leave town, no buildings to obstruct your view.
